Tiny Camera Module

Shrinking Camera Sizes to Match Shrinking Phones

In his article from Jun 15, 2007, Cheng Hung writes about Tessera Technologies Inc’s camera lens. As cell phones loose their bulk, this lens, at a fraction of the size of conventional camera modules, will help create a better, smaller, camera phone.

  1. Camera phones are great but since we are so used to the pictures that our cameras take, the phone pictures look so bad. When in reality if you have nothing to compare it to, they are excellent. It would be great if their quality became better.

  2. Convergence. That's what we get when technology shrinks. Convergence leads to innovative products which enable human beings to communicate better, share information, enjoy video and audio on the fly. The all in one pocket gadget.

  3. It really is incredible how much things shrink when technology improves. I'm sure in the future, cell phone pictures are going to be even better than the quality seen in regular cameras today.

  4. I often forget my phone has a camera under all the other stuff that it's capable of doing.

  5. it is crazy to think how they fit a camera lense into a small slider or flip phone. i sometime sit there and think "how do they do it?" they may fit a convenient, but the quality is not as good as a real camera, so you sacrifice quaility for mobility, sometimes good sometimes bad.

  6. Thats pretty cool that they can make cameras that small. I use my camera phone all the time for work and this small light weight camera is just one more step up the technology ladder.

  7. I use my camera phone often because I always have it on me. It takes ok pictures I guess. I mean i'd much rather use a camera but who remembers to take their camera with them in the morning. We all grab our cell phones before leaving the house and if we forget i'm sure that's the one thing that most people will turn around and get no matter how late they are!

  8. WOOOW, this is just wild. who know where you can go these days with out there being a camera because they can be stashed anywhere. this is kind of creepy. its truly amaizing to watch technology get smaller & smaller

  9. This is very interesting! I never even thought twice about how they can make a phone have a camera. The younger generations just tkae it for granted! My 4 year old niece did not understand why my fiances phone did not take pictures! Imagine that!

  10. as a photographer i love to read about camera technolgy. with the size of most camera phones its going to be crazy when you think of all the places you can hide a camera. the appiture has an opening as small as a dot on a domino. kinda scary when you think about it.

  11. The smaller we get these things the more impressive, and sometimes scary. As a tech person, I fear the day where I cannot fix a product because it requires a special machine to work on it to rebuild it. Its also scary to see miniature cameras and what people could potentially do with them to cause mischief and harm.
