The internet has come a long way whether some people see it in a negative way or positive way. In y opinion it has a bit of both. Shopping has become a strong enterprise on the internet. It is cheaper to run internet sales but, there’s less staff needed so the workplace suffers. Some workplace has become increasingly stressful for many people with longer hours, polluted air in the cities and so on. The internet has offered an alternative. Some businesses are starting to allow their employees to work from their homes. However, this system only works for the computer oriented jobs and it can also result in people not doing the work at all and just watch TV and even increase their stress by leaving the work until the last minute. Society has accepted of sexual material and the internet has increased that. These sexual sites allowed people to view porno for example, without being called pervert, or being embarrassed when purchasing a sex magazine. The internet has also allowed anyone who may not have the courage or in whose environment it may not be acceptable to reach out to others with their beliefs and ideas. It has allowed people from all over the world to express their ideas, communicate and have fun. The internet it is here to stay, it is really up to society how it affects us. There are many changes to society because of the internet, whether they enhance or ruin our life is it up to us.
The Internet has definitely come along way since its introduction. With Americans becoming increasingly technology dependent, who knows what it will be like 10 years from now?
The internet in my opinion is the biggest and most efficient advance in technology that we have invented. It was first used for military and government issues, but once they used it for public use, it literally exploded. It was easier to access information and contact people rather than send mail or try to get a hold of them on the phone. The internet has evolved into different programs such as Instant Messenger, Email, and so on. I liked the video!
The invention of the Internet has completly change our entire world. We rely on the internet for almost everything today! We can even do our taxes online as well and its very easy! I am happy that I am only 22 because I can't wait to see how everything evolves as I grow!
That was a very interesting video, not only because it was about possibly the greatest invention of technology of my generation, but because it showed how things tend to develope in the world. Nothing developes strictly out of practicallity, there is always a reason behind it. In this case, those reasons were money, military, and information. I believe that this type of situation is why we do not have the entire ocean mapped, or all of our universe explored... money. Also, it explains why we have so many treatments for diseases and illnessess, but not many cures.
Does anyone remember using newsgroups during the 'Nets commercial infancy?
I was only allowed to use them for limited MONITORED, amounts of time, and that was only to look up clean jokes with my Dad.
One of the first joke group created was "alt.swedish.chef.bork.bork.bork."
Verb tripling is an old bit of hacker word play. The swedish chef group (you know, like the swedish chef from The Muppet Show) set the "alt.adjective.noun.verb.verb.verb." pattern for future joke groups.
The alt hierarchy was littered with them, most in tribute to the pop pariahs of the 90's. Alt.fan.tonya-harding.whack.whack.whack and alt.fan.ojsimpson.die.die.die bore testimony.
The best joke groups were those that didn't appeal to the ire of the moment but offered a clever take on net life. Lonely male newbies had a tendency to email any user with a female-sounding name the moronically rhetorical question "are you cute?" How would you answer such a question? Two alt groups point the way. If you scan down your newsrc file, you'd find a newsgroup called alt.hi.are.you.cute which is immediately followed by alt.hi.im.a.babe.
Now all the Internet wants to do is sell me the latest Ne-Yo album.
